Instagram Photo Downloader

Paste a link to download Instagram photos at their full stored resolution — uncropped, unwatermarked and saved as a normal JPG. Works on single posts and whole carousels.

Works with single photo posts and multi-image carousels

Why use this Instagram image downloader?

Whether you went looking for an Instagram picture downloader or an image downloader, the goal is the same: return the file that was actually uploaded, at full size, with the right framing and an extension that matches the bytes inside it.

Full-size Instagram photo download

We fetch the largest version Instagram stored for the post, not the compressed grid thumbnail, so you keep every pixel that was uploaded.

Uncropped, as it was posted

Portrait and landscape shots keep their real framing. Instagram also publishes a square crop of most photos, and we deliberately skip it.

Single posts and full carousels

Paste a one-photo post or a ten-slide album. Every image is listed separately so you can take one or save the whole set at once.

Instant, no queue

Each Instagram image download is handled in seconds. There is no waiting room, no countdown and no throttling for people who did not pay.

Runs in the browser

An IG photo downloader with nothing to install: it works in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge on desktop and mobile alike.

No account, no tracking

You never log in, and we never store the images you save or keep a record of which posts you looked up.

How to download Instagram photos in 4 steps

The same steps work on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac. Every Instagram photo download runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install.

01

Find the photo

Open the Instagram post containing the image you want. It needs to be on a public profile — anything visible without logging in will work.

02

Copy the post link

Tap the ••• menu and choose Copy link, or copy the URL from your browser address bar. Both the /p/ and /username/p/ forms are accepted.

03

Check the preview

Every image found in the post appears as a thumbnail. On a carousel, this is where you pick out the specific slide you were after.

04

Save the image

Press download to save the picture at full resolution as a JPG. On a multi-image post you can also grab everything in one action.

Download Instagram photo full size, not a thumbnail

A single Instagram post does not contain one image. It contains a ladder of them — typically 150px, 320px, 640px and 1080px wide, plus square crops of several of those. Tools that take whichever entry appears first often hand back a 320px thumbnail, which looks fine on a phone screen and falls apart the moment you open it properly.

We read the whole ladder and take the largest genuine full-frame entry. Where Instagram omits the dimensions — which it does for carousel slides — the real size is recovered from the delivery URL rather than guessed at, so the biggest file is chosen reliably rather than by luck.

Why your saved file is a JPG and not a HEIC

Instagram stores a growing share of stills in HEIC, Apple’s more efficient image format, and converts them to JPEG as they leave the server. The result is a mismatch: the URL path ends in .heic while the response is unmistakably a JPEG.

Name the file from the path and you produce a .heic that Windows Photos, most Android galleries and plenty of editors simply refuse to open — a file that looks broken but is perfectly valid underneath. We name from the response instead, so what you download opens on the first try.

Download Instagram images on any device

Nothing runs locally, so the experience does not change between platforms. On iPhone and iPad, Safari saves into the Files app under Downloads — open it there and use the share sheet to push the picture into Photos if you want it in your library. Android saves to the Downloads folder, where the gallery app normally indexes it within seconds. Desktop browsers behave like any other download.

What you can save, and who owns it

Any publicly visible photo can be saved: single posts, every slide of a carousel, and profile pictures via the main downloader. Private accounts are a genuine wall rather than a missing feature — if a profile is restricted to approved followers, no external service can reach its images, and any site that claims to will be asking for your password.

Downloading does not transfer any rights. The photographer keeps the copyright, so personal, offline use is broadly accepted while republishing, reselling or dropping someone else’s photo into your own campaign is not. When in doubt, ask them. We cover the detail in is it legal to download Instagram content, and if you are repurposing what you save, see how to repurpose Instagram content.

Photo downloader FAQ

Common questions about saving Instagram photos, resolution, file formats and device support.

Is this Instagram photo downloader free?
Yes. There is no account, no subscription and no limit on how many images you save, so you can download Instagram photos as often as you like at no cost.
What resolution are the saved photos?
Whatever the creator uploaded, as far as Instagram kept it. Instagram caps stored images at 1080px on the long edge for most posts, so that is normally what you receive — the same file the app displays, not a shrunken preview.
What does Instagram photo download HD actually mean?
In practice it means the largest rendition Instagram holds, which is 1080px on the long edge for the great majority of posts. Instagram re-compresses uploads and does not keep the photographer’s original, so there is no hidden higher-quality master for any tool to unlock. Anything advertising 4K from an Instagram post is upscaling.
Why is my downloaded Instagram photo a JPG?
Because that is genuinely what Instagram sends. Photos are increasingly stored as HEIC and transcoded to JPEG at delivery time, so the filename in the URL says one thing while the actual bytes are another. We name files from what the server really returns, which is why they open correctly on Windows, Android and older editors.
Can I download all images from a carousel?
Yes. Paste the post link and every slide is listed. Save them individually or use Download all to collect the entire album in one go — including any videos mixed in among the photos.
Does the IG photo downloader work on iPhone and Android?
It does. Everything happens server-side, so you are just receiving a file. On iPhone, Safari places it in the Files app under Downloads, from where you can share it into Photos. On Android it lands in the Downloads folder and your gallery normally finds it on its own.
Do I need an app or an extension?
No. This is a web page, not software. Nothing is installed, no browser permissions are requested, and you are never asked for an Instagram password.
Can I download photos from a private account?
No. Only publicly visible posts can be retrieved. Images on private profiles are restricted to approved followers, and no third-party tool can get around that.
Will the image be cropped?
Not by us. Instagram publishes a centre-cropped square alongside most non-square photos, and picking the wrong one silently cuts the top and bottom off a portrait shot. We prefer the full uncropped frame every time.
Can I download someone’s profile picture?
Yes, though that is handled by the main downloader rather than this page. Paste a profile URL such as instagram.com/username into the box on the home page and the full-resolution avatar is returned.
Why is my Instagram photo download failing?
Most often the account is private, the post was deleted, or the copied link was incomplete. Try opening the URL in a logged-out browser tab — if the post appears there, it will download here.
Is it legal to save Instagram photos?
Saving a public image for personal reference or offline viewing is generally fine. Republishing it, selling it, or using it in your own marketing without the photographer’s permission is not. The copyright stays with whoever took the picture.
