Instagram calls these posts carousels, but hardly anyone else does consistently. Multi-image posts are where downloaders usually go wrong, in two opposite directions. Some return only the cover image, because that is the one the page advertises in its preview tags. Others return far too much — a page also carries replies, related posts and algorithmic suggestions, each with images of their own, so a four-photo album comes back as a dozen files with strangers’ pictures mixed in.

Nothing stops a carousel from combining stills and clips, and plenty do. Each slide is classified on its own rather than assuming the whole post shares the type of its first item, so photos are saved as JPG and videos as MP4 with their audio intact, all from the same link.

Carousel slides are also the case where Instagram most often ships an image with no stated dimensions at all. A tool that discards anything it cannot measure will silently drop those photos, which is how a six-item album can come back holding only its two videos. Sizes are instead recovered from the delivery URL, so the photos survive.

The sequence of a carousel is an editorial choice — a before and after, a recipe’s steps, a set of alternate angles. Reordering the output by file type destroys that, so the original order is preserved and saved files are numbered to match. Slide three stays slide three on your disk.

Using Download all saves each item in turn with a short pause between them, which keeps browsers from blocking what would otherwise look like a burst of pop-ups. If your browser asks whether to allow multiple downloads, that prompt is what it is reacting to.

Limits worth knowing

Private accounts cannot be reached. If a profile is restricted to approved followers, its albums are unavailable to any external tool, and a site promising otherwise is after your login. Deleted posts are equally gone — there is no cache to fall back on.

Copy the post link rather than a link to one slide; the latter is the usual reason a download returns a single image when you expected the set.
