An Instagram downloader that keeps the original file

Most tools re-encode what they hand you, which costs quality twice: once when Instagram compresses the upload, and again on the way out. This one does not. It reads the list of renditions Instagram itself publishes for a post, picks the largest uncropped one, and passes those exact bytes through untouched. What you save is the file Instagram would serve to its own app.

That detail matters most on square crops. A 4:5 photo is published alongside a centre-cropped 1:1 version of itself, and a tool that simply picks the biggest number will sometimes hand you the crop — with the top and bottom of the picture missing. Full frames are preferred here for exactly that reason.
